The Press Awards for 2012

The premier awards for British journalism took place at a glittering ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel 7 March 2013. BBC Breakfast’s Susanna Reid presented the awards over dinner enjoyed by more than 450 people. Sponsors for the awards included Camelot which has supported the Society of Editors since 2001, Unison, Precise, Nikon, BT, Gorkana, Google, Reuters and the Press Association. The awards are supported by the NPA, in association with the Journalists’ Charity and British Journalism Review.

The awards, which celebrate the best of the best of British newspaper journalism, are organised on behalf of the industry by the Society of Editors. Proceeds will help to fund the Society of Editors’ campaigning for press freedom and the Journalists’ Charity. No less than 29 awards were handed out including the prestigious award for Newspaper of the Year.

Staff and freelance journalists could submit entries so long as their work appeared in a British national newspaper or on its related digital platforms during 2012. All entries were made online.

The Society of Editors represents more than 400 members in national, regional and local newspapers, magazines, broadcasting, digital media, media law and journalism education.

The Journalists’ Charity is the leading charity for all journalists in need; they are there to assist them, their partners and dependants with grants and other forms of financial assistance.

The NPA represents the publishers of national newspapers.
