The Press Awards for 2013

The 'Press Awards' celebrated the best in British national newspaper journalism published during 2013 either on paper or digitally. The awards were presented at a glittering ceremony at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square on Tuesday April 1, 2014.

The awards are supported by the NPA, in association with the Journalists’ Charity and the British Journalism Review. Entries published on all newspaper platforms were judged by journalists nominated by their papers supervised by independent chairmen.

The winners of the Newspaper of the Year title and team awards were chosen by a special panel judging achievements during the year across all platforms.

‘The Press Awards’ are organised on behalf of the industry by the Society of Editors. Proceeds help to fund the Journalists’ Charity and the Society of Editors’ campaigning for press freedom.

Chairman of the judges Bob Satchwell said: "In yet another year of great scoops, brilliant writing, photography and design in print and across digital platforms, UK national newspapers have maintained their reputation as the best in the world. They inform, and entertain the British public and campaign on their behalf, fearlessly exposing wrong-doing and questioning those in authority. The year has not been short of controversy but the press continues to demonstrate why it must remain free to report, comment and campaign without restrictions imposed by those who would prefer to see it neutered."
